Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy at Lootus Õnnele is designed for children and adults who need support in developing, restoring or adapting the skills required for everyday life. An occupational therapist works with clients who experience sensory processing difficulties, fine motor challenges, developmental delays, neurological conditions, or who are recovering from injury or illness.
Developing everyday life skills
The occupational therapist helps build and strengthen skills needed for independent functioning — getting dressed, eating, writing, playing, and participating in kindergarten, school and work. The goal is to increase the client's independence and confidence in daily life.
Sensory integration support
Some children and adults process sensory information — touch, sound, light, movement — differently from those around them. The occupational therapist assesses sensory processing patterns and works with the client to make everyday situations more manageable and comfortable.
Fine motor skills and hand function
Holding a pencil, using scissors, fastening buttons, typing on a keyboard — these skills can present challenges for both children and adults. The occupational therapist works through practical exercises tailored to the client's age and individual needs.
Support after injury or illness
Following a stroke, traumatic brain injury, surgery or prolonged illness, the occupational therapist supports the step-by-step restoration of daily living skills. The focus is on practical independence — functioning at home, at work and in the community.
Session structure and content
The occupational therapist begins with a comprehensive assessment to identify the client's everyday needs, challenges and goals. An individual intervention plan is then developed. Sessions are conducted on a one-to-one basis and focus on building specific practical skills relevant to the client's daily life.
Collaboration with family and the specialist team
The occupational therapist works closely with the client's family, educators and other specialists within the centre. This collaborative approach ensures that skills developed during sessions are carried over into real life — at home, in kindergarten, at school and at work.
All occupational therapy services are tailored to the individual goals and life circumstances of each client. Our aim is to help every person participate fully in daily life — independently and with confidence.
